5 FILMS EVERY FASHION ADDICTED SHOULD WATCH

Scritto da Damiano Crosina 24 November 2017

Cinema and fashion: a wedding made in heaven. How many times have we rewatched a movie, not so much for its characters and plot, but to see again a dress or immerse ourselves in the glamorous atmosphere that surrounds it? Today, let’s take a look back at the 5 movies that every fashion addicted should absolutely watch.

BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY’S (1961)

There is no better way to open our list than the classic Breakfast at Tiffany’s. A stunning Audrey Hepburn, a super blond George Peppard, an Oscar winning soundtrack, glamorous rétro atmospheres and even a cat (which is always a plus). A true masterpiece that brought home two Oscars, earned Audrey a nomination for Best Actress, and became soon a milestone of Cinema. What better time to rediscover this movie if not now? Now that having breakfast at Tiffany’s is really possible in their new Blue Box Café.

THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA (2006)

A film that doesn’t need any introduction and I’m sure you’ve already seen. (If you haven’t, you should be ashamed and go straight home to watch it). Meryl Streep in one of her most iconic roles in pop culture (“It’s All”), a very skinny Emily Blunt (“you eat carbs, for Christ’s sake!”), Stanley Tucci in a queer version (“I’m gonna make one of my models eat you alive”) and a tepid Anne Hathaway (“…? “) with even a proud unibrow owner boyfriend (“There are 20 cents of cheese in that toast”). Ah, there’s also Valentino, who in the Italian version doubles himself in a such bad way that’s almost good. I don’t need to tell you how much this film is a cornerstone of our days, you already know.

HOW TO MARRY A MILLIONAIRE (1953)

A sparkling and glamour comedy with a Marylin at the apex of her career and in amazing shape, a charming Lauren Bacall and a Betty Grable who at least is trying to do her best. A handbook of the ancient art of the marriage of convenience put into operation by three New Yorker models who take all their savings and rent a luxurious apartment in order to strike a rich man looking for love. The movie in which Marylin proved to be not only an explosive beauty, but also a great actress. A must watch.

CONFESSIONS OF A SHOPAHOLIC (2009)

We could call it “the least successful version of The Devil Wears Prada“. Don’t get me wrong: the movie is absolutely enjoyable, with a very good Isla Fisher, a well thought out story, love, fashion and fun, but you can not help but feel that something is missing. A well-made movie but not a memorable one, perhaps the only truly memorable sequence is the initial one, with the manikins coming alive to convince the protagonist to buy the green scarf that becomes a symbol of the story. Anyway, it’s a great time filler while waiting to forget enough The devil dresses Prada in order to watch it again.

SEX AND THE CITY (2008)

Fashion, memorable look, Sarah Jessica Parker and her squad, melodrama, sassines and style. In short, the perfect film for fashion lovers. Or at least they say so. And I trust them, because I tried to watch this movie, I tried hard and tried again, but I never made it to the end. But, again, they say it’s the perfect movie for fashion addicted and who am I to contradict them? Watch it and, if you’ve already seen it, watch it again. Keep in mind that I will respect you a lot for this: it takes courage and a lot of determination to make it to the end of Sex And The City.
